Join Tara Cork of Perch Upholstery for an Introduction to Punch Needle Embroidery  (also known as Needle Punching or Punch Needle work)

It is a technique involving punching a series of loops through a base cloth, working back to front. This craft can be dated back to Medieval times, but has seen a massive resurgence in the past few years. Oftentimes referred to as Modern Punch Needle.

We will be punching onto specially created frames made of plywood, waxed to keep their natural look. You are free to choose between a triangle, hexagon or cloud frame with all yarns and an adjustable wooden punch needle available on the day.

Once your piece is finished it will be wall ready!

Tara has created a board on Pinterest if you are interested in learning more about this medium, it will also give you loads of suggestions and ideas of what can be punched into your frames, from letters/words, to very cool modern waves and designs, the choices are limitless.

If you are still undecided about what you’d like on the day, Tara will have letters, shapes and pictures of some of the most popular images including succulents, pineapples, Monstera leaves and stars.

The course will start with an introduction to the punch needle and a demonstration from Tara, followed by a creative period arranging your pattern on your frame. Your tutor will have many types of yarn to hand, including merino wool and vegan alternatives.

This course is suitable for age 9+ so if you are seeking a great mother/daughter day out, look no further. For reference, the triangle frame with the cerise dots with aqua background was made by Tara's 9 year old. She began Punch Needling when she was 7.
